If you're concerned about why your Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP PC takes so long to boot when you switch it on then it's probably due to the number of programs that run at system startup - and this is the place for you. Such programs typically (but not always) include an icon in the System Tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen - next to the clock.

The intention is to provide a central resource for PC users and Tech Support staff alike and the sections following are provided. Click on the section heading or the main index at the top of the page.

Introduction Provides a detailed introduction into what Windows start-up programs are - including how to identify and disable them with links to both on-line and off-line versions of the database

Rogues There a plenty of sites available that deal with "rogue" applications - which are potentially unwanted and sometimes dangerous programs that masquerade as legitimate security suites and system utilities. Instead of adding to these, here particular groups of these applications that come from the same (or associated sources) and share common features or files are identified from a start-up programs perspective
HJT Forums List of forums currently known to be actively supporting the popular HijackThis utility - which is one of the easiest ways of identifying start-up programs
