If you're concerned about why your Windows 7/Vista/XP PC takes so long to boot when you switch it on then it's probably due to the number of programs that run at system startup - and this is the place for you. Such programs typically (but not always) include an icon in the System Tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen - next to the clock.
The intention is to provide a central resource for PC users and Tech Support staff alike and the sections following are provided. Click on the section heading or the main index at the top of the page.
| Introduction | Provides a detailed introduction into what Windows start-up programs are - including how to identify and disable them with links to both on-line and off-line versions of the database |
| Database | Searchable on-line start-up programs database containing containing more than 23K entries - including those added by both legitimate applications and those added by viruses, worms, trojans, rogues and other malware |
| Detailed Entries | Provides an index of the pages currently available that expand upon the information provided by the database - including how the entry is listed in MSConfig or the Windows registry (for example), file location, disabling options and the associated product and vendor/publisher |
| Updates | The latest additions and changes to the database and new detailed entry pages |
| Concise List | Simple index of pages listing the database entries for web search engine (such as Google) caching purposes - as they only retain the first 100K |
| Rogues | There a plenty of sites available that deal with "rogue" applications - which are potentially unwanted and sometimes dangerous programs that masquerade as legitimate security suites and system utilities. Instead of adding to these, here particular groups of these applications that come from the same (or associated sources) and share common features or files are identified from a start-up programs perspective |
| HJT Forums | List of forums currently known to be actively supporting the popular HijackThis utility - which is one of the easiest ways of identifying start-up programs |
| Message Board | Please investigate as much as you can before posting queries relating to start-up programs here |
